Not having a desire to do gardening does not stop me from admiring the work of others, however. I do appreciate beauty that is tended and cared for and made to show all the joy of creation.
As I walk around or drive around my neighborhood and survey the yards of my neighbors, I feel a certain amount of satisfaction in the well-kept yards and gardens they tend. The satisfaction comes from knowing that they care about their homes and about the appearance of them and the appearance of the neighborhood in general.
I used to get a little upset because my neighbors used to complain to my mom and dad about my lack of gardening "skills." This was one thing that irritated me about living in a small town where everybody knows your name! But, you know, after awhile, I just accepted it as part of life on this corner and on this block of my world in a small town. While I don't garden, we have taken more care in getting our yard regularly maintained and in taking care of the few perennials that sprout up on their own every spring.
I can't say that I am a gardener myself, but I sure do appreciate the fruits of their labors and I sure do think it is a beautiful day, at least in this neighborhood!
